Alexandrite was made on a level 3 canvas. The inspiration for this painting is the rare Alexandrite stone. its color changing abilities can make it green or red or even purple during different lightening changes. In this painting I wanted to display the chances of green and purple by using the metallic colors, Emerald Green and Amethyst Purple. I wanted to bring some contrast between the two so I decided to add a marble base to break up the side. It brings it such a modern twist but still keeps the elegance of the stone colors.
This painting is filled with the shimmers of the emerald and amethyst but also the 24k gold. The deep green base makes this painting unique and although the base is dark, the colors bring a much needed vibrance.
